During World War II a group of British officers are caught and sent to a Japanese prison camp in Burma.

Their Colonel agrees to supervise the construction of a bridge for the Japanese. Nobody, however, is aware of the plan by allies to make sure that no such bridge is built.

Bridge on the River Kwai has won 7 Oscars and was voted one of the best American films ever made.
