The Polish Community Council of Victoria presents Tribute to Freedom [RZECZPOSPOLITEJ W HOLDZIE]
To mark the 100 year anniversary of Poland being returned to the map of Europe as a nation after 123 years of partition, the Victorian Polish community brings you a patriotic and reflective commemorative celebration through music, song, dance and other artistic forms called ‘Tribute to Freedom’.
The program for this concert includes vibrant folk dances, songs and music performed by the two dance groups in Melbourne the Polish Song & Dance Ensemble, POLONEZ, and the Polish Vocal-Dance Ensemble, LOWICZ, selected patriotic music and poetry, performed by artists ranging from the very young, by the Polish scouts, as well as professional artists.
During the grand finale of this concert, dance ensembles will combine to perform the “Cracovienne”, (Krakowiak), from the Opera “Krakowiacy i Gorale”. This was considered to be the first national Polish opera, performed for the very first time in 1794, in the hope its patriotic undertones would arouse a nation on the brink of disappearance.
