Hell Ship - The Journey of the Ticonderoga

19 Sep at 8pm - Theatre Season 2018

Chester Creative

Author, actor and comedian Michael Veitch tells the tale of one of the most tragic true stories of our maritime history.

In 1852, the emigrant ship Ticonderoga struggled into Port Melbourne after a nightmare voyage from England in which nearly 200 of her passengers had died of typhus. Her saga of tragedy, loss and heroism gripped the people of our young nation like nothing before.

Exploring themes of family, grit and courage the show shines a light on the young ship’s surgeon who bravely nursed many of the passengers back to health; Michael Veitch’s great-great-grandfather, James William Henry Veitch.

Written and performed by Michael Veitch.

Find out more about the doomed voyage of the Ticonderoga. Michael Veitch will be talking about his book “Hell Ship” at Sam Merrifield Library on Mon. 8 October 2018 at 7pm. This is a free event. Register here: http://bit.ly/HellShipTalk
